South Yorkshire Workplace Chaplaincy

Who we are

We are a team of two dozen people, lay and clergy, who provide chaplaincy to a number of workplaces in South Yorkshire. Some of us are full or part-time paid staff, and some are unpaid and contribute on a sessional basis. If you contact the office, you are likely to encounter one of the following members of the team;-

Chris Chesters

Chris Chesters is the Chief Executive. Chris is a Church Army Captain and his job is to co-ordinate the work of SYWC. A trainer on the national industrial mission course, he has particular interests in improving the quality of the service we offer, training and theological reflection.

Catherine Brown is the Administrator.
She is an Anglican lay person.
Her main interest outside of the church is Brass Banding.

John Freeman

John Freeman is the accounts administrator and a Fire and Rescue Service chaplain. He is a Methodist lay person with particular interests in prayer and drumming.

Tony Singleton

Tony Singleton, is becoming a frequent visitor to our office, he chairs the Board of Directors as well as being a lay member of the Catholic Diocese of Hallam.

David Whitehead

David Whitehead is our Multi Faith Chaplaincy Coordinator.  Prior to earning his degree in Theology at Cliff College Derbyshire, David worked for 8 years in a Chaplaincy role delivering pastoral and welfare care to deep sea fishermen around the UK coast and outer islands.  David's interests include sailing, walking and golf.
