South Yorkshire Workplace Chaplaincy

What we do

South Yorkshire Workplace Chaplaincy is an agency of Churches Together in South Yorkshire providing chaplains to workplaces throughout the region including;-

  • South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service
  • South Yorkshire Police Service
  • The steel industry
  • The retail industry
  • The manufacturing industry
  • the leisure industry
  • Her Majesty's Courts Service

Chaplains are men and women, paid and voluntary, lay or ordained. They visit places of work to talk with, listen to and affirm people at all levels.

    Chaplains provide
  • An independent and confidential service
  • Pastoral care for all in the workplace
  • A response to need
  • Support, and the encouragement of good relations in the workplace
  • A Christian perspective on the effect of work on individuals and groups.

Chaplains are trained to extend their ministry to all the workplace. They respond to need wherever it exists, helping people individually or referring them to other agencies.

All the main Christian denominations in South Yorkshire (Anglican, Baptist, Methodist, Roman Catholic, Salvation Army, Society of Friends and United Reformed) are committed to the work of South Yorkshire Workplace Chaplaincy.

Working on behalf of the churches, South Yorkshire Workplace Chaplaincy seeks to establish links between churches and the working life of South Yorkshire.

Relating what is seen and heard to the gospel, South Yorkshire Workplace Chaplaincy is committed to sharing its understanding in the workplace and in churches.

For more details on how the chaplaincy is related to the churches and how it is governed, see the 'how we are governed' page.
