Prayer from the Occupational Cycle;-

"Prayer of an Engineering Technician"

Hoorah! We did it. The cub contractor completed on time and the client was delighted when the machine worked first time and to specification. We've been paid too! It gives us a real buzz; it's teamwork that does it.
It makes all the hassle worth while when we know we've done a good job and satisfied both the Boss and the Client.
Thank you Lord when we share your creative energy.

"Prayer"

We thank you God
for the work of technicians, draughtspeople and computer programmers,
the people who know how,
how to make things work,
how the imagination can leap
from lines on paper
to a machine to do a complex task,
how lines of code
can make a subtle program,
bright, friendly and useful.
Yet often the decisions about what happens to the fruit of their labours
are not theirs:
God give them grace
to work in harmony with their consciences.

"Prayer"

Creator God,
we thank you for the work of
typographers, industrial designers and graphic designers,
whose work is woven unnoticed
into our everyday life,
and often forgotten.
We remember it now,
we thank you for it,
the shapes of things,
clarity of text,
ease of use.
And for designers we ask for;-
Patience and hope
when they see their designs fail to make it
beyond the drawing board,
Clarity of vision,
to see the moral issues behind decisions like
"rugged or elegant?", "expensive or cheap?",
A glimpse of you
in the design of the world you made.
