The Occupational Prayer Cycle

A full list of weeks is below...

As churches we are very good at praying for missionaries and medical staff, police and teachers, and rightly so, for these are important and stressful jobs. But other jobs are important and other jobs are stressful, and do not usually get the same coverage. So here is a prayer cycle to run week by week through the year, covering many more jobs. In time it's hoped that it will be reasonably comprehensive, but this draft inevitably misses out some important categories (suggestions welcome - please contact the SYWC office).

The distribution of occupations across the weeks is intended to reflect the variety of work people do, rather than balance the numbers engaged in each week's occupations. On a world scale for instance, farmers are under-represented. The order in which things appear does not imply the precedence of any particular type of work. Each week is defined by the range of dates in which the Sunday falls.
