South Yorkshire Workplace Chaplaincy

So what would a prospective voluntary chaplain actually do?

  • First, he or she would meet a member of the staff and they would explore together whether this is the right thing to do.
  • There is a brief training course, for those who have no previous experience of this type of work.
  • He or she would become a member of the team.
  • The chaplain would be expected to visit the workplace at least once a fortnight.
  • The chaplain would take part in ongoing training and support networks.
  • The chaplain would make the links between faith and working life.
  • The chaplain would make a link back into church about what he or she discovers in the workplace.
  • A chaplain would be someone who is called to the pastoral care of people at their work.
  • A chaplain can be lay or ordained.
